Villeroy and Boch SamarkandInspired by this thrilling mix of cultures, Villeroy & Boch has picked up on elements from Oriental folklore for its new table collection Samarkand and, with an eye to home-grown tradition, interpreted it in a timeless and very noble way. A fine, delicate design has been applied to the round shapes from the Anmut dishware set, their roots in the 1950ies. The result is a surprising combination of the trusted with the new, conscious echoes of retro in a form displaying classic values and durability, and all this enlivened by a contemporary decoration reminiscent of the Oriental. In it, the versatile, geometric elements of the decor are embedded into tranquil bands and chains and thus have the effect of a classic bordering that gives the dishware a demonstratively harmonious radiance. Each piece has its own combination of subtle stair-step and chequered bordering arranged on soft beige. The colouring, kept in warm nuances of white/ivory/sand and accentuated with gold, underscores the timeless elegance of Samarkand.
