The Althea Nova Mug 14 oz. is part of Villeroy and Boch's Althea Nova pattern. In an urban society, nature has become a symbol for slowing down and finding harmony, offering a refuge, a source of strength and health. As part of this trend, healing herbs and kitchen spices are presently experiencing a true renaissance. Bathing in beneficial botanical essences, using cosmetics with flower extracts and even eating foods seasoned with aromatic garden herbs is now seen as steps to foster the well-being of both body and soul in very special ways. Inspired by today's sensitivity to nature, Villeroy & Boch has now created a new Country decor: Althea Nova, embodying the highest quality and furnishing an emotional decor that works on several levels, appearing both fresh and contemporary all at once. The traditional country shape of the octave has been rediscovered for Althea Nova. An octave is both simple and generous in its size, thus forming the ideal base for wide-surface decor applications. The central motifs of the decor are such herbs as cilantro, sage and lovage, rendered as botanical drawings and provided with their Latin names in handwritten scrolling. The design comes in two different interpretations of the herbal theme: one with the herbs finely drawn and shadowed, and one depicting detailed close-ups of the herbs. The drawn with back-shadowing are full-surface motifs with watercolour shadowing, and painted in a manner that matches the colours of their blossoms and generates uncommon depth. The close-ups of the herbs are kept in more powerful shades that make them appear as if observed through a magnifying glass. Bread dishes, breakfast plates and mugs with handles are available in this version of the decor. The combination of the two decor interpretations creates captivating changes in perspective. Other special features of the design include: On the concave ware, coloured filets only appear on the lower edging, on the flatware they are on the sides. This additionally underscores the light, modern nature of the tableware. |
